Running, Respect, and Resilience!
In this engaging talk, I share my personal journey of overcoming bullying and discovering happiness through running. Using the relatable context of a playground, I illustrate how completing 401 marathons symbolizes resilience and strength. I encourage children to embrace their unique paths and find joy in their passions, emphasizing the importance of respecting one another. My story serves as an inspiring reminder that, no matter the challenges they face, they have the power to transform their struggles into strengths and support each other in creating a positive community.

Pure inspiration. Superb talker with all ages of children and staff alike.

The children found the talk fascinating and it made them think of some very thoughtful and interesting questions. I thought that as well as discussing the highs/ lows of the experience, then need for never giving up / resilience that the link to the charities and why he was doing the run was really important and a good way of addressing such issues. The children were glued to his every word from start to finish.

What a truly inspirational person who has certainly left an impression on all of our pupils, staff and parents. We were honoured to have Ben Smith as our guest speaker for our Junior School Speech Day. His talk was incredibly motivating and left a lasting impression on everyone present. Ben's ability to connect on a personal level was remarkable. He was approachable and engaging in one-on-one conversations, and his public speaking skills were nothing short of fantastic. His story captivated audience members of all ages, from 7 to 77, and you could hear a pin drop as he shared his journey. Ben's talk highlighted the stark contrast between his incredible successes and the ordeals he endured, including mental health struggles and ill health. His message was clear and powerful: we can achieve anything we set our minds too. Ben taught us all valuable lessons about resilience, determination, and the power of the human spirit. Thank you, Ben, for an unforgettable and truly motivational experience.

Ben came to visit Broadway Infants on the 19th June and the children were so inspired by what he had to tell them. They loved his assembly telling them about some of the marathons that he has run and the fundraising that he has done and he made it fun and interactive so that the children all felt involved. He then challenged Year 2 to run a marathon in 15 minutes as a group. They all rose to the challenge and loved running around the field working as a team. It was so lovely seeing the children challenging themselves and enjoying the physical exercise. They absolutely loved high fiving Ben on their way around and having him join in with them.

Ben was a huge hit on Friday! The children loved hearing all about his journey and he pitched his talk so appropriately to meet both their age and entertainment requirements. I loved how he got the feel of Yarrells so quickly and adapted his talk to fit our values and ethos. Ben was very personable, moving between seriousness and humour seamlessly; he was easy with the children and just brilliant at managing the ad hoc nature of the questions that came his way. Ben's message of not letting others and their words define you, but to define yourself in your own words and through your own actions was powerfully conveyed and I know it resonated with everyone in the room, children and adults alike. Ben's talk was a perfect presentation for our end of year celebrations and prize-giving.
